Paucartambo masks are icons of Andean ceremonial art, famous for their vibrant colors and the deep symbolism behind each character (such as the Saqra, or the Qhapaq Negro). In this 2-hour workshop, you will be guided by local artisans whose technique has been passed down for generations. You will not only paint a mask, but also learn about the history behind the region’s dances and festivals, keeping alive one of the most authentic cultural expressions of Peru. An ideal activity for the whole family and to take home a unique souvenir made by you.

Itinerary
Paucartambo Mask Workshop
- Introduction to Paucartambo Folklore: The artisan will welcome you and provide a brief talk about the history of the masks, the meaning of their characters, and the traditional colors.
- Hands-on Painting Workshop: You will receive a pre-carved mask and all materials. Under the instructor's guidance, you will learn painting techniques and the use of colors to bring your piece to life.
- Finishing Touches and Packaging: Finalization of the mask. You will receive recommendations for its care and have time to safely package it.
